How to configure a Windows DNS server with Kibosh.

Clients in an Active Directory need to point to AD DNS servers. Pointing the clients to third-party DNS can cause problems connecting to AD, Group Policy problems, and a number of other issues.

Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2

  1. From the Start menu, select Administrative Tools, then select DNS.
  2. Choose the server you want to edit, then double click Forwarders.
    1. Click the edit button.
    2. Enter Kibosh Cloud DNS servers.
    3. Uncheck ‘Use root hints if no forwarders are available
  3. Right click on Cached Lookups and then Clear Cache.

NOTE: If you leave If you leave ‘Use root hints…’ checked, your DNS server may consult with the root hints servers to resolve a DNS entry and could bypass Kibosh Cloud.

Server 2000 / 2003:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Administrator Tools
    1. DNS
      1. Right click on the server name, and select properties
        1. Select Forwarders tab
          1. Enter Kibosh Cloud DNS servers into the forwarders list
    2. Apply
    3. Right click on the server again, and select ‘clear cache’

How to test your work:

On any workstation:

  1. Flush local cache by running ipconfig /flushdns from the command line, or reboot the device.
  2. Go to www.info.com and search for ‘abcd1234’. When Kibosh Cloud is protecting your LAN you will receive a Kibosh Filtering Success message.
